At Lloyd’s, we bring together the world’s leading risk takers to advance global progress. In his role as Country Manager and General Representative for Ireland, Hugh Governey helps Irish brokers, MGAs, customers and capital to connect with the specialist expertise of the Lloyd’s market. He also works closely with colleagues across Lloyd’s Europe to maintain the shared assets that underpin our platform, including its regulatory licences.

Hugh joined Lloyd’s in 2015 and has since held several market‑facing roles. Most recently, he has led educational engagement with major banking clients, supporting their understanding of Lloyd’s capital structure and specialist risk capabilities. His previous roles have included UK regional market development, post‑Brexit readiness, and overseeing key elements of Lloyd’s broker registration.

Before joining Lloyd’s, Hugh worked for the Lloyd’s managing agent of Mitsui Sumitomo, and at the Department of the Taoiseach.

He holds degrees from the London School of Economics and Trinity College, Dublin.

We play an important role in the promotion and management of the Lloyd's brand in Europe providing support to Underwriters, Brokers and Coverholders to maximise their European business development opportunities and initiatives.
